The world often promotes a form of tolerance that embraces all beliefs and behaviors without judgment. However, biblical tolerance is different—God calls His people to lovingly address sin within the church, not to celebrate or ignore it. Paul rebukes the Corinthian church for their arrogance in tolerating egregious sin, reminding them that sin, like leaven, spreads and corrupts the entire community if left unchecked. Just as Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed to cleanse us, we are called to purge sin from our lives and from the church to preserve holiness. Ultimately, biblical discipline is for the restoration of individuals and the protection of the church, as we seek to reflect Christ’s love and truth to a watching world.
