How do we handle conflict? How do we respond to people who wrong us? The truth is how we react in these difficult situations is rooted in our identity. The Church in Corinth forgot their identity in Christ and handle conflict in a manner that was not worthy of the Gospel.
As Paul addresses the Church in Corinth, he outlines three possible responses to conflict: The wrong way, which involves rushing to public courts without considering the impact on our witness; the better way, which encourages seeking wise counsel within the church; and the best way, which urges us to follow Christ’s example by choosing humility and forgiveness over personal victory. Paul’s message reminds us that when we’re rooted in our identity in Christ, we can approach conflict with a spirit of grace and unity, valuing peace and reconciliation above our personal rights.
