Israel is now finds themselves without water so they turn on Moses and God and test God. That is to say, they put Him on trial. When we do not understand what God is doing or why He is doing it, there is a temptation to put Him on trial. One example of this is, “If God is loving why is there so much evil and suffering in the world?” But God is not the one on trial. Israel has continually sinned against God and demanding a trial is the final straw! God cannot continue to allow this behavior go unpunished because He is Holy and Just.
